Whether you are in the process of finding a diagnosis for your facial pain or just received your official diagnosis, we know how life-changing, overwhelming, and scary it can be. That’s why we want to send a message directly to you, from each of our committee members, who understand where you are on this journey.
Rachel: “To a young patient just diagnosed with facial pain: don’t lose hope! There are many medications and treatments available to help you. It may take time to figure out what works best for your body, but with the right doctor who you can trust, things can get better. Keep doing things that bring you joy and don’t lose yourself in the pain. Take advantage of the good moments and try to find something good in every day.”
Elaina: “Having a bunch of different emotions after being just diagnosed with facial pain is completely normal. You are not alone though. Don’t be scared to reach out to others with facial pain. The friends you will make become like family. Having that community makes everything a little less scary and isolating.”
Laura: “I know you are in an incredible amount of pain, it’s scary and overwhelming. You’re afraid of this pain and how it will impact your future. Just know that things can get better. Life can still be beautiful and precious even with facial pain. So many wonderful things are still ahead for you. There is hope. Remember you are so strong, even when you don’t feel like it. Others understand and will support you on this journey. You are not alone. You are not a burden. You are loved.”
Kenzie: “Find your people. Whether it be through social media, support groups, friends or family – find the people who can support you no matter what. Having people to be able to talk to about your experience with chronic pain makes all the difference in the world!”
Lindsey: “Keep your head up! I know a diagnosis like this can be daunting at the beginning, but you got this. You are not facial pain, you are a person with facial pain! You may have a few extra bumps in the road, but do not give up your dreams because of a diagnosis! I encourage you to find your tribe-a strong support system. Whether it’s family, friends, or people from support groups in person or online, find them! They will help you through the bumps in the road! You got this!”
There is support for you. Whether you are recently diagnosed, still looking for a diagnosis, or have had your facial pain diagnosis for a while, the Young Patient Committee is here for you. We care.
