The FPA’s Video Series featuring presentations from the 2024 FPA Conference continues with Data to Discovery: Navigating Facial Pain Research, a panel featuring Jonathan Greenberg, PhD, Robert Lasser, MD, MBA, Raymond F. Sekula, Jr., MD, and Brandi Underwood.
Dr. Jonathan Greenberg is a research staff psychologist at the Integrated Brain Health Clinical and Research Program in the Department of Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital and an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Greenberg brings a wealth of knowledge in mind-body interventions and the cognitive impacts of mindfulness practices, particularly in chronic pain and mild traumatic brain injury. Dr. Greenberg was the recipient of a K23 career development award from the National Center of Complementary and Integrative Health, as well as the AlterMed Research Foundation Award, the Harvard Medical School Kaplen Fellowship on Depression, the Livingston Fellowship Award and the Early Career Investigator award from the Integrated Health and Spirituality special interest group at the Society of Behavioral Medicine.
Dr. Rob Lasser is a seasoned biopharma executive with over 25 years of experience in the CNS space, spanning clinical practice, academic research, large pharma and biotech. He currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer of Noema Pharma with focus on developing new therapeutics for Trigeminal Neuralgia. Most recently, he held an executive role at Sage Therapeutics, where he led the development of zuranolone in depressive disorders.
Dr. Raymond Sekula is a Professor of Neurological Surgery at the Columbia University Department of Neurological Surgery. He has published more than 100 scientific articles and is a co-editor of the textbook Microvascular Decompression Surgery, a comprehensive look at MVD surgery, widely accepted as an effective remedy for cranial nerve hyperexcitability disorders including hemifacial spasm, trigeminal neuralgia, and glossopharyngeal neuralgia. Dr. Sekula is the chair of the Medical Advisory Board of the Facial Pain Association.
Brandi Underwood is the FPA’s Manager of Development Research and Advocacy. She also serves on the FPA’s Patient Registry Advisory Board and represents the FPA as a member organization on the Alliance for Headache Disorders Advocacy’s Board. She is a person living with facial pain and a committed advocate for disability rights. As a first-generation college graduate from a rural community, Brandi offers a distinct perspective and actively champions the inclusion and amplification of voices from marginalized and underserved communities.
